Superintendent Appoints Kathleen Ramirez Principal at North Mianus School
Greenwich Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Toni Jones announced the appointment of Kathleen Ramirez as principal of North Mianus School, effective July 1. Ms.Ramirez replaces Ms. Angela Schmidt, who announced her pending retirement in February after 22 years of loyal service, including 13 years as NMS principal. A staff member at Greenwich Public Schools since 2005, including serving as an assistant principal since 2017, Ms. Ramirez has held the position of assistant principal at NMS since July 2021.
“This is an exciting time for the North Mianus School community as Ms. Kathleen Ramirez is poised to lead our staff and students into the next school year and beyond,” Dr. Jones said. “Students, staff, and families have recently endured challenging times, and Kathleen has proven to be a true leader for all.”
As an assistant principal at North Mianus, Ms. Ramirez led the process of relocating the 3rd-5th grades for parts of the 2021-2022 school year to a facility in Stamford due to a significant flood caused by ceiling failure. At this off-site location, she supervised the classroom setup process, ensured all students’ social-emotional and health needs were met, and kept families informed of their continued progress.
“I will be humbled and honored to serve as the new principal for North Mianus School,” Ms. Ramirez said. “I thank Angela for her tremendous leadership through the years, especially this past year, as a marvelous mentor. I look forward to leading and learning hand-in-hand with our highly successful staff and in earnest partnership with the incredible families we serve. The future of North Mianus School is very bright and I am truly grateful for the opportunity."
Prior to her most recent time at NM, she served as the assistant principal at both Glenville and North Street Schools and an instructional coach for GPS, supporting teachers by implementing multiple professional practices to meet the ever-changing needs of students and teachers. Over a nine-year period, she was a fourth-grade teacher at both North Mianus and Julian Curtiss School after holding roles as a building intern and substitute teacher.
Ms. Ramirez holds a Bachelor of Science in Russian from Georgetown University, a master’s in elementary education from the University of Bridgeport, a Sixth-Year Certificate from the University of La Verne Graduate School of Education, and a Connecticut 092 Administration Certificate from Sacred Heart University Graduate School of Education. Ms. Ramirez and her husband Pedro reside in Riverside and are the proud parents of Caitlin (NMS Class of 2009, GHS Class of 2016) and Alex (NMS Class of 2012, GHS Class of 2019).
